Ellen and Sean hold an incredibly special place in our hearts. Not only is Ellen a very dear, long time friend from my Highland Dancing days, they are the first couple to officially trust me with their wedding stationery. This is the first full suite I've printed on one of our presses and as such I'm calling it a huge personal victory. And BONUS! I love it just as much as I love this couple! As a friend it's so nice to see the tender way these two love each other and equally amazing to watch them encourage each other in their careers, life, and in the wild adventures they take together in the great outdoors. Saying the mountains call to these two would be a complete understatement.
Featuring the deep forest-y green of fragrant pines (which coincidentally matches the bride's green sapphire engagement ring) and with a Canadian Rocky Mountain locale, this suite was marked as a understated stunner right from the get go. Every time I look at it I can almost smell the fresh mountain air and feel the crunchy shale beneath my feet that marks home away from home for this couple. This is one of my main goals for wedding suites – creating something that imbues the recipients with a sense of who the bride and groom are as a couple, and sets the mood for their entire wedding day well before anyone arrives for the big celebration.
Ellen and Sean chose our decadent 116 lb. cotton house paper in pearl, which when combined with kraft paper envelopes lent the suite a natural outdoorsy feel that complemented the overall direction of their wedding. Fully hand-lettered we went with a combination of organic script, block capitals for simple legibility, and understated decorative mountain elements. They also decided to combine a few printing methods – using letterpress for the "keystone" pieces, their invitation and thank-you card, and going with flat digital printing for their Save the Date and RSVP tag, and a custom rubber stamp to make the return address on their envelopes a quick and easy-to-do addition. Couples can sometimes be thrown off by how costly a fully letterpress suite can add up to and throw the idea out the window entirely, this strategy can help balance out the cost so that a dream invite suite can still be had, without breaking the bank. Personalized and unique wording put the finishing touches and this sweet and simple set.
Ellen and Sean, from us to you, we hope you had the happiest of wedding days in the majestic mountains!
